Resident Advisory Council

Home

Residents of the Housing Authority of Paducah elect representatives from each neighborhood to serve on an advisory council.  The Council offers a place for residents to voice their concerns and solve problems.  The Council also represents the residents to the management of the Housing Authority and its Board of Commissioners.

Elections to the Council take place each spring and the representatives serve staggered two year-terms.  All residents are notified by mail of the nomination and election process for neighborhood representatives.

The Resident Advisory Council meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 10 a.m.  The meetings are held at the Ernest Brown Center at Pierce Lackey Village, 501 Cherry Circle, Paducah.  Residents are welcome at the meetings and encouraged to attend and get involved in RAC activities.

Some of the activities of the Resident Council are:

§       Organization of a coalition of public housing resident councils from throughout Western Kentucky.  The Paducah RAC organized the first meeting of the West Kentucky Regional Coalition and remains a leader in the group.  The Coalition’s objective is to help RACs come together for mutual problem solving.

§       Offer financial support to youth and elderly services at the Housing Authority.  The RAC receives an allocation of funds each year from HUD.  The RAC shares those resources with youth programs and elderly services, providing funds for the activities these departments undertake.

§       Sponsors fund raising events to generate resources for additional programming.  The next event is scheduled for October 2005 – a yard sale and family fun day Blackburn Park.

For more information about the Resident Council, call President Dorothy Taylor at 441-0057 or email her at dorothyburrage@wmconnect.com.
